A Bold One

A Bold One

Born of angry doodling whilst struggling to get another, failed antweight design off of the ground, A Bold One is a surprisingly well-scaled antweight version of Hello There!.

How well scaled? Whilst the major, outer dimensions received a minor tweak to remain within the 4” cube whilst being as accurately scaled to the wheels as possible, the whole design is scaled down as far as the material thicknesses used. The 20mm frame rails are reproduced from 3mm HDPE, the 3mm baseplate is scaled down to 1mm HDPE, and the remaining 10mm panels and wedge are scaled down to 1.5mm Polycarb. Thanks to blind luck, this combination brought the robot into weight by just a couple of grams.

In full ‘replica mode’ the robot doesn’t quite fit within the cube, but the hammer can be switched for a revised design which makes the robot a legal antweight. It can, however, run in its true configuration within the less restrictive (and generally woke) BBB ‘BAnts’ 2v2 ruleset.
